External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the 3rd Indian Ocean Conference in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam Monday. She also unveiled the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the Chancery building at the Embassy of India in Hanoi.

On this occasion, she praised the the role played by Indian community in Vietnam in consolidating cultural connect and strengthening people to people bond between two nations. Mrs Swaraj reached Hanoi last night on the first leg of her five-day two-nation visit to Vietnam and Cambodia.

 

In Vietnam, she will co-chair the 16th meeting of the Joint Commission along with her Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Binh Minh. She will also call on Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

On the second leg of her two nation tour, the External Affairs Minister will leave for Cambodia on the 29th. Mrs Swaraj will have a bilateral meeting with her Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhonn and also call on Prime Minister Hun Sen and President of Senate Say Chhum. This will be her first official visit to Cambodia.

Mrs Swaraj’s visit to Vietnam and Cambodia will provide an opportunity to hold in-depth discussions with the political leadership on a wide range of global, regional and bilateral issues. It will also help advance India’s strategic engagement with these countries and ASEAN region.
