All States of the country joined to mark the International Day of Yoga. Union Ministers, criss-crossed the country to take part in the celebrations.
Uttar Pradesh. Governor Mr. Ram Naik inaugurated a Yoga Camp in Lucknow . Addressing a mass yoga function at K D Singh Babu stadium, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said yoga was India’s biggest gift to the world and it cannot be tied to a particular religion, caste or sect. A special yoga day programme was also organized at bank of Yamuna river near to historic Taj Mahal.
In West Bengal, Union Communication and Information and Technology Minister Ravisankar Prasad led Yoga Day celebrations in at Salt Lake in Kolkata this morning.
Union ministers Mr.Piyush Goyal and Mr.Ananth Gitte participated in the celebration in Mumbai. AIR correspondent reports that although there was heavy rain, the event started on time and lasted till 9am.
In Tamil Nadu, Union Minister for Urban Development Mr. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the celebrations in Chennai.
Several other states also marked the day. In hilly state Himachal Pradesh, people performed yoga at historical Ridge Maidan in Shimla where Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani was also present.
In Uttarakhand, the Union Minister of State of Environment and Forest, Prakash Javadekar today inaugurated a yoga session at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
In the winter capital city of Jammu the main programme held at Parade Ground where local MP Jugal Kishore Sharma led the people performing various yoga postures. Thousands of young students also participated across Kashmir valley, Leh and Ladakh region and performed Yoga Asanas.
In Meghalaya, Governor V. Shanmuganathan took part in the yoga session in Shillong while in Arunachal Pradesh Mass Yoga Demonstration were organised at Indira Gandhi Park of Itanagar.
