Sri Lankan Navy arrested six Tamil fishermen when they were fishing near international waters today morning. The Lankan Navy also detained the fishing boat of the fishermen. The Tamil fishermen have been taken to Kankesanturai for questioning.

There is tension in fishermen villages of Tamil Nadu as Sri Lankan Navy again apprehended six fishermen from Pudukottai Jagadappatinam. The fishermen were fishing near international maritime boundary line when they were confronted by Lankan Navy. The Lankan Navy also detained one fishing boat. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the release of 41 Tamil fishermen from Lankan jail. She also urged him to secure the release of 56 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. The distance between Rameswaram and Sri Lankan waters is only a very few kilometers and Tamil fishermen cross the international maritime boundary line in spite of warnings.
