The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended 13 more fishermen from Tamil Nadu late last night when they were fishing near Katchatheevu. The fishermen were taken for questioning to Kankesanthurai Mannar and are likely to be brought before local courts tomorrow.
Two boats of the fishermen were also detained. Local fishermen are urging the central government to intervene and secure the release of 61 fishermen from Tamil Nadu languishing in Lankan jail. They also demand the immediate release of 126 fishing boats detained as their livelihood is badly affected. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapady K Palaniswamy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure the release of fishermen and their fishing boats.
