Speaker convenes all party meeting
COLOMBO
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has sworn in a new cabinet of ministers last evening under Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa even as pressure is growing on him to call an early session of Parliament.
Twelve cabinet ministers, one state and one deputy minister took oath including four MPs who switched sides from alliance led by ousted PM Ranil Wickremsinghe. Today’s turn of events will be crucial in the ongoing political situation in Sri Lanka. Mr. Ranil Wickremsinghe has called for a protest march in Colombo and its success will indicate his popularity to some extent.
Speaker has called for an all party meeting and may reach a decision for early convening of Parliament despite President’s order to prorogue its till 16th of November. Amidst this, new Prime minster side will continue to poach upon MPs to garner majority support in the house.
