International Yoga day is being celebrated across Sri Lanka by Indian missions and other organizations. Indian high commission in Colombo organized a programme at headquarters of Sri Lankan Army in Colombo where Army Chief Lt. General Shavendra Silva and Indian high commissioner Gopal Baglay took part.
Over a hundred army personnel performed asanas under the guidance of Sri Lanka’s renowned Yoga teacher Guru Vyas. The programme was also streamed live in Panadura and Trincomalee with particiaptrtion of army personnel there.
Recorded messages from PM Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa were screened on the occasion. Indian consulate in Jaffna organized a programme where over a hundred officials and students participated and performed yoga asanas.
Essay and drawing competitions on Yoga were also held earlier and prizes were given to winners today.
Indian consulates in Hambantota and Kandy organized similar programmes while several Indian families and cultural organisations are celebrating the occasion at home keeping in mind the health safety norms and social distancing.
