Smriti-Irani

AMN / NEW DELHI

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani today said public broadcaster’s duty was to speak fairly and without fear and complimented Prasar Bharati for doing its job in a fair manner.

Delivering Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture 2017 organised by All India Radio in New Delhi today Mrs. Irani said, public broadcaster in its broadcasts in rural and far-flung areas of the country gives importance to news and not drama. She said, broadcasting landscape should be strengthened to boost democracy.

The Minister said, public broadcaster reaches parts of the country where private broadcasters have not yet reached due to their profit considerations.

Talking about media versus social media the Information and Broadcasting Minister said nobody ever imagined that a day will come when headlines will have to compete with hashtags.

She said the line between the content of broadcasting and content being delivered by other means of technology is blurring.

Mrs Irani said, there is a need for a model structure of Broadcasting which can strengthen the democracy.

She said, animation and other forms of digital media should be included in the curriculum. Mrs Irani also said, the government is committed for the Prime Minister’s New India vision.
