Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has termed the situation in the Kashmir Valley as “grave” and alleged that there was “no such thing as freedom of speech in J&K”.

Azad who reached Jammu from Srinagar on Tuesday as part of his Supreme Court monitored visit is expected to meet various delegations from the Jammu region during his two days’ stay.
“The situation is grave in Kashmir. I was not allowed to visit several areas during the tour. There is no such thing as freedom of speech in J&K”, said Azad while talking to mediapersons.

Azad has met several delegations in Srinagar and South Kashmir in the past few days. “Let me first complete meeting the people here and get their views. Till then, I cannot share anything with the media”, Azad said. The Supreme Court had allowed Azad to visit J&K on condition that he would not indulge in any political rally and submit a detailed report about the ground situation in the Valley post revocation Article 370 . Earlier in August, Azad was not allowed by the Srinagar district administration to move outside the airport and was ‘deported’ to New Delhi after which he had moved petition in the SC.
