Officials of Jammu and Kashmir have said that the situation has improved with the resumption of normal activities there.
Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy on August 10 said prohibitory orders under section 144, CrPC were relaxed at some places in Jammu and Kashmir and hoped that the situation would be “fully peaceful in the coming 10-15 days”.
Stating that the law-and-order situation was under control in the state, he said Pakistan and its leaders were making irresponsible and provocative statements.
The government had taken precautionary measures, including the deployment of security forces, to maintain peace, Reddy said.
“Law and order is fully under control. Neighbouring Pakistan (is making) irresponsible, provocative statements. The foreign minister, home minister there or the prime minister are speaking. We have taken all precautionary measures, either (deployment of) Army or paramilitary (forces), to safeguard law and order there.
In Jammu Division, Prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144 have been completely lifted in five districts and the curfew was relaxed in Doda and Kishtwar districts, paving the way for the resumption of normal activities. All schools and colleges reopened in five districts of the Jammu region today.

All the market places and shops reopened and traffic has resumed as normal in all these districts bringing much relief to the people. Restrictions, however, continued to be in place in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda , Kishtwar and Ramban districts.
The situation in Srinagar is peaceful with some private vehicles plying on roads and some movement of people seen on the roads. According to Divisional Commissioner, Srinagar, there is no dearth of stock of food grains & poultry. Majority of food and supplies stores have been opened today. Stock of petrol and diesel has been replenished in Kashmir Valley.
The administration has released the advance salary of daily wage workers for the month of August and has made some langars operational at Tourist Reception Centre, Srinagar, Hospitals and other public places in Srinagar. Srinagar District administration is helping the non-state labourers who want to return home. Special train coaches from Udhampur/Jammu have been coordinated in view of large number of workers including those going home on Eid.
According to top government source, 2.5 lakh sheep/goat and 30 lakh poultry have been arranged for Eid festival. Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik, apart from visiting various localities in Srinagar visited two hospitals in Srinagar city and reviewed facilities with the doctors and interacted with patients and took feedback from the people.
Moreover, MHA Spokesperson has denied media reports claiming there was a protest involving 10,000 people in Srinagar. The spokesperson said that this is completely fabricated & incorrect adding that there have been a few minor stray protests in Srinagar/Baramulla.
