The Severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha has intensified into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centered over Central adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal about 530 kilometers west-northwest of Port Blair. The effect of severe cyclonic storm will also be indirectly felt in the state of Tripura from 13th to 16 May.

Talking to AIR, Director, MeT centre Agartala Nahush Kulkarni said the severe cyclonic storm mocha will make landfall at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and Sittwe in Myanmar on the noon of 14th May. He said there will be widespread rainfall in Tripura. However, heavy rainfall will be witnessed at isolated places in South Tripura, Gomati, and Dhalai districts on 13th May. On May 14, very heavy rainfall will be witnessed in North Tripura, Unakoti, South Tripura, and Dhalai districts. He urged farmers to make use of ‘Meghdoot’ and ‘Sachet’ mobile apps for agriculture-related issues during the activity of severe cyclonic storms. Mr. Kulkarni also said, neighbouring states of Mizoram and Manipur will also witness rainfall due to mocha.
