Several senior Islamic State group members in Afghanistan, including a provincial leader, have been killed in an air strike by the United States.

Commander of US forces in Afghanistan General John Nicholson today said Thursday’s strike killed Abdul Rahman, who he claimed was a provincial leader in IS’s Afghanistan branch. Rahman’s death comes a month after US forces killed another IS leader Abu Sayed.

In a statement, Nicholson said the death of Abdul Rahman deals yet another blow to the senior leadership of the terror outfit. US forces have regularly been targeting IS fighters in Afghanistan since the insurgents gained a foothold in the east of the country in 2015.
