Seven jawans of the special task force of Chhattisgarh Police were killed and 10 injured in an encounter with Naxals in Pedmal forest area in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Saturday.
According to initial reports, the jawans had gone to Dornapal area in Sukma district, which is a naxal dominated area bordering Andhra Pradesh.
While the party was on a search operation, about 100 Naxals attacked them.
The jawans retaliated and the encounter went on for over two hours.
Police sources say the casualty may rise. The injured have been shifted to Jagdalpur for treatment.
Earlier, in 2010, seventy-four jawans were killed by the naxals in Sukma while in 2013, 25 people including top Congress leaders were killed.
