Supreme Court today agreed to hear on Monday a plea challenging the constitutional validity of government’s action to re-promulgate the land acquisition ordinance. Four NGOs yesterday moved a PIL alleging that re-promulgation of the ordinance amounted to executive entering the impermissible domain of enacting legislation.

The litigants said as the Ordinance was first promulgated in December last year, the government should have introduced a bill on the line of the ordinance to amend the land acquisition Act, 2013, in the Parliament Session that followed. Instead of following the constitutionally dictated procedure, the government re-promulgated the ordinance after the session , the PIL said.
