Supreme Court today sought clarification on the Center’s controversial notification on sale of cattle in market. A bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Dipak Misra, today asked if the said notification was placed before the Parliament or not.
As per rules, the notification in such matters becomes effective only when it is laid before the Parliament.
The petitioner, All India Jamiatul Quresh Action Committee, has alleged that the notification was not placed before the govt.
The Centre will reply on Tuesday whether proper procedure was applied in this case or not.
In the notification released on 23 May 2017, Centre had laid down news rules for sale of cattle in market place. The notification was earlier stayed by Madras high court and later by SC. The new rules had made the sale of cattle for slaughter very difficult.
