Asks Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu

The Supreme Court today modified its earlier order on the Cauvery water issue and asked Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu per day till 20th September. The court, in its Sep 5 order, had asked to release 15,000 cusecs water per day. Rejecting Karnataka’s plea that the earlier order be kept in abeyance, the apex court expressed anguish over what it said the tone and tenor of the plea.
It said, the law and order problem cannot be a ground for not complying with the court’s order. Earlier, Karnataka had told the court that the agony claimed by Tamil Nadu on the crisis is not there.
