The Supreme Court today agreed to list a number of petitions challenging the validity of Aadhaar likely in the first week of November. The Central Government told the three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Dipak Misra that the deadline for availing various schemes and social security measures had been extended till December 31.
Earlier, the deadline for getting all the benefits under Aadhaar was September 31.
Interestingly, today, the Attorney General (AG), KK Venugopal, top law officer representing the Central Government, requested the CJI-headed bench of the apex court to list all the Aadhaar petitions before a 5-judge Constitution Bench instead of a three-judge bench.
The apex court, after hearing from the Central Government, said, we would most likely list all these pleas challenging the validity of Aadhaar in the first week of November.
