Saudi Arabia, Iran remain divided despite Muslim organisation attempts to defuse tension between the two countries.  The Foreign Ministers of 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have met to discuss the tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran, but failed to bridge the rift between the two countries. The ministers held an emergency meeting yesterday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the group is headquartered.

Before the meeting, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said, he hoped the ministers would adopt a balanced joint statement. At the meeting, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir denounced Iran for inciting a sectarian conflict, calling it the main cause of instability and wars in the Middle East.

Led by Saudi Arabia, the participants adopted a joint statement condemning the aggressions against Saudi Arabia’s missions in Iran. They also criticized Iran’s interference in the conflicts in Syria and Yemen and support for terrorism. Iran rejected the statement.
