Senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam today described as “unwise” the decision of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan to promote the Goods & Services Tax (GST) as its brand ambassador.
The president of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee also advised Mr Bachchan to refrain from promoting the GST as backlash from traders may go against his image.
“Would advise @SrBachchan to wthidraw from brand ambassador of #GST in this form. An expected backlash from traders may go against him eventually,” Mr Nirupam tweeted.
Talking to news channels Mr Nirupam said that “it is not necessary that Amitabh Bachchan becomes a part of everything foolish BJP does”.
Meanwhile Congress today skirted a direct reply on whether actor Amitabh Bachchan should be ‘brand ambassador’ for the Government’s Goods and Service Tax (GST) campaign even as a Mumbai-based party leader Sanjay Nirupam counselled the mega star to stay away from the same.
Answering a series of pointed questions on the same at the regular media briefing, the AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said, “The taste of the pudding is in its eating. A celebrity endorsement is one issue. We will know what impact GST has only after July 1.
The true index of GST can be found only after its implementation.
