Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt reached Mumbai after he was finally released from Yerawada Jail today, where he served 42 months as part of his five-year sentence after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case.
Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata and their children, sister and former MP Priya Dutt and her family, film director Rajkumar Hirani and thousands of fans received him outside the jail.
After his release, the actor reached Pune airport to board a special chartered flight to Mumbai. He will visit Siddhivinayak Temple and his mother’s grave before proceeding to his residence.
After 23 years in and out of prison, Sanjay Dutt is free man now. Dutt finally completed his jail term today after counting in the eight months and 16 days he earned as exemption or remission on account of good behaviour in prison.
The 56-year-old actor was lodged in the prison in May 2013 to undergo the remainder of his five-year sentence after being convicted of illegal possession of arms. The Bollywood actor was arrested on April 19, 1993, for possession and destruction of an AK-56 rifle, which was part of cache of arms and explosives that landed in India prior to the serial blasts in Mumbai.
