Despite the mixed and not-so-enthusiastic reviews by film critics, Salman Khan’s latest offering ‘Tubelight’, based on the backdrop of the 1962 India-China war, Film distributors and Salman’s fans hope that this film would become a smashing hit.

Tubelight was released on this Friday (June 23) on 4350 screens in the country and 1200 screens overseas.

According to initial box office reports, the film got an opening of 50 per cent, which is a pointer towards decent business. If trade pundits are to be believed, then Tubelight would easily cross the revenue of Rs 100 crore in the first three days.

Nishant Pitti, CEO and Co-founder of distribution company “EaseMyTrip.com” which has released the film for about 1100 screens in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, expressed the hope that Tubelight would do a business of more than Rs 500 crore. “This film has got a fairly decent opening on the first day and would be able to join the club of Rs 100 crore by Monday,” he said.

Amit Khanna, a leading name associated with the film distribution business, pointed out that Salman Khan has got a huge fan following. Also, Tubelight’s story and backdrop are different from other films. “If we keep these facts into consideration, it is expected that this film too, like Salman Khan’s other films — Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijan — would do a huge business,” he noted.

Tubelight has been made at a budget of Rs 100 crore, which does not include Salman Khan’s remuneration. If the film has to become a commercial success, it needs to do a business of Rs 135 crore.

EaseMyTrip.com, a leading company in the travel industry, organized a special screening for the media and prominent names in the travel segment at Delhi’s Odeon cinema hall.

Nishnat Patti informed that EaseMyTrip.com has now forayed into the area of film production and distribution. This company has secured distribution rights of a number of big films. Also, the company is soon going to produce films, Manikarnika –The Queen of Jhansi. This will be a film of big budget, he said.

Amit Khan pointed out that Tubelight was released on Friday. On Monday, there is countrywide holiday on account of Eid. Consequently, the film has got full four days to make a robust business. There is also the fact that no big film is scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Therefore, this film has got plenty of time for doing a good business. Now it is to be seen whether Tubelight becomes the film to gross the largest amount on a single day. press release
