Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal today entered the pre-quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships at Nanjing, China. Saina, seeded 10th, defeated Turkey’s Aliye Demirbag, 21-17, 21-8 in her second round match to progress. Saina had bagged a Bronze medal at the Championships last year.
World number three PV Sindhu, who won the Silver medal last year, will play her second round match against Fitriani of Indonesia, later in the tournament.
Earlier today, Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth progressed to the Men’s Singles second round. While Praneeth got a walk-over in the first round, Srikanth, seeded 5th, defeated Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in straight games, 21-15, 21-16. Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy have already made it the second round.
