The striking state Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) workers intensified their agitation on 11th day today while more number of organisations and unions extended their support.
Organisations of Students, teachers, employees besides opposition parties have extended solidarity by participating in the protests. The employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) too stepped up its pressure by representing the issue to the Governor.
A delegation of TSRTC-JAC leaders comprising Ashwathama Reddy, Raji Reddy and others called on Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and submitted a memorandum. They alleged that the Government is resorting to oppressive measures against the employees’ strike. They informed media that they also submitted a CD with video footage on the police excesses on the RTC employees who were staging protests in peaceful and democratic manner.
They also alleged that the government is responsible for two RTC employees ending their life and death of four others. They alleged that they took the extreme step due to repeated statements of the Chief Minister that the striking workers will not be treated as employees and they are “self-dismissed”. The JAC leaders appealed to the employees not to resort to the extreme step of ending lives stating that struggle was the only to achieve their justified demands.
Meanwhile, the ruling TRS Parliamentary Party Leader K Keshav Rao appealed to RTC JAC Leaders to call off strike and get ready for talks.
