Attacking the BJP and the RSS on the issue of the vandalism of statues of Lenin and Periyar, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the tearing of the statues of Lenin encouraged the cadres of the saffron parties to destroy statues of those who opposed their ideology.
Taking to twitter, Rahul said, ”when the RSS & BJP encouraged the tearing down of Lenin statues in Tripura, they signalled their cadres to destroy statues of those who opposed their ideology, like Periyar, the great social reformer who fought for the Dalits. His statue too was destroyed today in Tamil Nadu.”
Earlier this month, RSS workers vandalised the statue of Lenin in Tripura. This was followed by the vandalism of the statue of social reformer Periyar in Tamil Nadu.
