Rajya Sabha today adopt motion of thanks to President’s Address with one amendment moved by Opposition Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. Earlier Replying to the motion of thanks to Presidents Address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took a jibe at Congress for wasting its tenure without implementing core development projects.
Modi likened Congress with that of death, unaffected by blame and criticism. He agreed that many of the schemes are a rehearse of existing ones, but those were only on paper during the 10-year-long UPA regime.
The Prime Minister commended the MPs for accepting the President’s counsel and allowing smooth functioning of both Houses during the ongoing Session. He coaxed Rajya Sabha to pass the pending bills including the one on goods and services tax, GST, saying the House of elders with their wisdom should guide the country.
Amidst thumping of desks by treasury benches, Modi said, these legislations would take development to a quantum jump from incremental improvement. He claimed, his government has been able to bring about good governance, which has brought transparency, accountability and decentralisation.
Modi lamented that 300 infra projects worth 15 lakh crores of rupees were stalled for last 10-15 years. He said, all these projects are now being monitored for speedy implementation. The Prime Minister claimed, there is a quantum jump in job creation, 48 per cent increase in foreign direct investment, six-fold increase in electronic manufacturing and the highest production of automobiles during the past one-and-a-half years.
Modi assured the House, the policy initiatives by his government would see the income of farmers rising to double by 2022. He said, a new scheme is being launched on 14th April – on the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for online marketing of agriculture produce. The Prime Minister said, the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan is expected to become a mass movement.
