Talking to TIA, he said Ramdev was more of a businessman than a ‘Sanyasi’. He said that people of dubious character are funding him.
To a question as why the government has sent four ministers at the airport to placate Ram Dev, Singh said the government has shown ‘sensitiveness’ to the issue of corruption. When specifically asked as why the government provided Ram Dev larger than life stature, the Congress leader tried to defend the Congress-led UPA government saying in democracy there was need to talk to everybody. On the fast being held by social activists Medha Patkar and Sharmilla since last two weeks and no government minister or representative went there to see them, he failed to give any convincing answer just said the government should talk to everybody.
Earlier addressing a meeting in Moradabad, Digvijay Singh quipped: “Even to teach yoga, Ram Dev charges Rs. 50,000 from those who sit in the front seats, Rs. 30,000 for the backseat and Rs. 1000 for the last seat. What else is this?” It is said the party has differed with the government’s extraordinary step of rushing four senior ministers to the New Delhi airport yesterday to talk to the yoga guru. Party sources said talks with Baba Ramdev were fine but there was no need to send the ministers to the airport to meet him.
They also suggested that Congress President Sonia Gandhi was not in the loop over the decision. “The party has nothing to do with it”, they said.
