Railways has generated more than nine lakh 79 thousand mandays of work under Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan in six States till 18th September this year. These states are Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Railways Minister Piyush Goyal is closely monitoring the progress made in these projects and generation of work opportunities for the migrant labours of these states under this scheme.
Around 164 Railway infrastructure projects are being executed in these states. Railway has also appointed nodal officers in each district as well as in the States so that a close coordination is established with the State Government. The works are related to construction and maintenance of approach roads for level crossings, repair and widening of existing railway embankments and plantation of trees at extreme boundaries of railway land.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan on 20th June this year to empower and provide livelihood opportunities for migrant workers affected by Pandemic. Mr Modi had announced that an amount of 50 thousand crore rupees will be spent for building durable rural infrastructure under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan.
