In a bid to resolve the deepening diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab nations, US President Donald Trump called Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces to take stock of the latest regional issues and discussed joint efforts to counter extremism and terrorism, and to address security challenges in the region.

A statement by the UAE’s media agency said that while the two leaders exchanged views on these issues and the two sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening pillars of peace and stability in the region.

A day earlier, similar calls were made by the US President to Saudi leader King Salman Bin Abdulazil Al Saud and the Emir of Qatar Tameem bin Hamad A Thani , where he emphasized the importance of all countries in the region working together to defeat terrorism and promote regional stability.

President Donald Trump even offered to mediate to help the parties resolve their differences, including through a meeting at the White House, if necessary, a White House Statement said.

Meanwhile, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash has been quoted by Associated Press stating that Qatar has ‘chosen to ride the tiger of extremism and terrorism and now needed to pay the price. Qatar has denied these allegations.

UAE Minister emphasized that they want Qatar to change their policies including stopping support to terror groups , expelling members of Hamas and rein in the media outlets it funds including Al- Jazeera.
