SC Commission seeks report; Dy CM Pulls Buses Off the Road

The protest and demonstration over the Moga molestation and subsequent death of a teenaged Dalit girl is on in Punjab as victim family refuses to cremate her body untill action against the owners of the Orbit bus service and cancellation of its permit.

punjab molestationChairman of National Commission for Scheduled Caste Dr. P.L. Punia, who visited the injured mother of the deceased girl in Moga hospital asked to register a case against the bus owners for keeping the windows of the bus tinted against the orders of the Supreme Court of India.

He also asked for security cover to the family as demanded by them. Vice Chairman of the Commission Rajkumar Verka has asked the Moga Deputy Commissioner to file an action taken report on the whole episode within three days.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has ordered that the Orbit buses to be off the road with immediate effect. Punjab Chief Minister’s media advisor Harcharan Bains has confirmed that Mr. Badal has asked the company to send staff on orientation course and no bus should be on road till the completion of the course.

Punjab Pradesh Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa has sought the resignation of the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for lacking courage to go personally to meet the poor family to expresses condolences even after three days of her death. In a press statement, Mr. Bajwa said none from the Badal family including his son and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and daughter-in-law and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal met the family and assured justice.

HC take suo motu cognizance

New Delhi: Punjab High Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the incident in Moga in which a teenaged girl died after being molested and thrown off a moving bus, as per news reports on Sunday.

The hearing in the matter will take place tomorrow after a senior citizen complained about the incident.

After widespread protests across the state, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday ordered Orbit buses to go off the road with immediate effect.

An orientation course of the staff of the bus company will also be held and no buses will ply until then.

Orbit Aviation company is owned by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family.

While refusing the authorities plea to conduct a post-mortem and cremate her body, the victim`s family is demanding that a case be registered against Badal and others who own the Orbit Aviation Company.

The family has also refused to accept a compensation of Rs 20 lakh being offered by the Punjab government.
