Agitated people of Udhampur on Sunday held protests against the state government over alleged rotting of 5,000 tonnes of rice worth Rs 10 crore meant for flood relief distribution in the state.

Thousands of people obstructed the district administration’s bid to dug trenches and bury the 5,000 tonnes of rotten, stinking, smelly rice bags in Tikri area.

The protesters hit out at the administration for it’s failure to distribute the rice meant for flood hit people of the area resulting in its decay.

According to the people, the rice had arrived in the district through trains from Chattisgarh on September 21 last year. The residents also demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
