New Delhi
The protest against the release of controversial movie ‘Padmavati’ spilled here on Friday, as a group of people gathered outside the Azadpur Metro Station on Friday morning to protest against the release of the movie which is yet to be cleared by the censor board.
”A call was received by the Police regarding a group of 50-60 people gathering outside Azadpur metro station and burning the effigy of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director of movie Padmavati”, a senior police officer said.
The group Rashtriya Chetna Manch, is reportedly behind the effigy burning that took place here.
Deepika Padukone, Ranveer SIngh and Shahid Kapoor starrer was scheduled to be released on December 1, which was now deferred by the producers, as it triggered massive outrage amongnst the Rajput community for alleged ‘distortion’ of historical facts related to the Rajput Queen Padmavati and also for the ”objectionable sequences” as said by various organisations in several states, especially in Rajasthan.
Several organisations across the country have been opposing the release of the movie.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan had said they will not allow the film to be released in their states even after the censor board clears it.
Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje has also supported the opposition against the film as it hurt the sentiments of a community and had also sought edits in it, asking to remove the objectionable sequences. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has also opposed the film.
