The festival of lights ‘Diwali’ is being celebrated across the country today except a few states where it was celebrated Saturday. Kali puja was celebrated in several states including West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar and Jharkhand Saturday.

The national capital is fully decked up to celebrate Diwali, its most popular festival today. People in large numbers were seen thronging to shops to buy candles, lamps, crackers and gifts for their near and dear ones Saturday evening.

Authorities have urged the people to celebrate Diwali in a safe and pollution-free manner. Security has been tightened at public places in Delhi.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion.

In a message Mr. Mukherjee said Diwali is a harbinger of hope and aspirations for a better tomorrow and signifies the triumph of good over evil.

In his message Mr. Ansari hoped that the festival will bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness in everyone life.
