In her message, President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil wished that may Lord Mahavir’s noble teachings inspire people to strive for love, peace and harmony and work for the unity and progress of the country. The Vice President, Mr. Hamid Ansari in his message said that Mahavir’s teachings are relevant at all times and show the path of non-violence, truthfulness, peace and universal love.
In his message Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that the teachings of Lord Mahavira inspire us to lead a simple life of compassion and selflessness.

Meanwhile Jains across the country are celebrating the birth of Lord Mahavir Saturday, the 24th and last Thirthankar of Jainism. Jain temples are tastefully decorated with colorful flags and huge processions are being carried out in various parts of the country to celebrate the auspicious occassion. Our Correpondent reports that in the national capital, hundreds of people are participating in the traditional procession being carried out in the walled city.

An NGO of Jaipur Bhagwan Mahavir Vikalang Sahayta Samithi has come forward to equip Arunima Sinha, a victim of anti social elements in Uttar Pradesh with artificial limb, Jaipur foot. Mahavir Jayanti was also celebrated at the birth place of Lord Mahavir Kundalpur in Bihar in a big way.
