India and Ghana have agreed for greater security and defence cooperation. President Pranab Mukherjee and his counterpart John Mahama said in a joint press statement today that international terrorism is a scourage and a threat to the entire civilized world. They called for greater exchanges between the two countries in dealing with these challenges.

Both the leaders expressed satisfaction that bilateral trade and investments have been steadily growing. However, they observed that these were still below the existing potential. They acknowledged the need to take uo mutually beneficial projects such as joint fertilizer plant with an emphasis on greater value addition.

India also proposed to establish a chair on Indian Studies in the University of Ghana. Before concluding his tour to Ghana, the President Mukherjee this morning will vist India Ghana Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT which has been set up with Indian assistance. He is also likely to announce a further grant assistance of one million US dollars to the institute. The president will leave for Cote d’ivorie later today. This is Anand Saurabh.
