President of India Ramnath Kovind Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people on the occasion of Onam.  

President Kovind in his message on the eve of Onam has said: “On the occasion of Onam, I offer my greetings and good wishes to the people of the country, particularly to our brothers and sisters from Kerala.

Coinciding with the beginning of the harvest season, Onam celebrates the hard work and toil of our farmers. May this festival be an occasion for celebration and sharing joy with our families, while not forgetting to reach out to those in need. Let us work unitedly to promote harmony and fraternity in our society”.

In his message Mr Naidu said, Onam marks the beginning of the harvest season in various parts of our country and reflects the central role of agriculture in Indian society. He wished the the festival ushers the country in peace, prosperity and happiness. Mr Modi wished that the auspicious festival enrich our society with happiness, harmony and well being.

Kerala Governor Justice (Retd) P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have also greeted Keralities all over the world on the occasion of Onam, the harvest festival that falls on September 4.

In a message, the Governor said the celebration of Onam rekindles the glorious legacy of a life of equality, prosperity and oneness, filling every mind and home with the celestial joy of festivity.

Wishing prosperity, Vijayan said Onam celebration was an evidence of secularism that ‘we all maintain and let us welcome unitedly the Onam that comes with the message of equality.”

Opposition leader in the state assembly Ramesh Chennithala was among those greeted people on the occasion of Onam.
