President, Prime Minister condole loss of lives in accident in Surendranagar district, Gujarat

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the loss of lives in the accident in the Surendranagar district of Gujarat. In a social media post, President Murmu expressed grief at the tragic accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Mr Modi called the accident extremely tragic and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

In Gujarat, a tragic road accident on the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway near Chharad village in Surendranagar district this morning has claimed the lives of seven pilgrims and left several others injured. The incident occurred when a truck ran over a group of devotees who were travelling on foot from Rajkot to Bahucharaji. Surendranagar SP Vaidika Bihani told the media that six individuals died on the spot, while one person succumbed to injuries at Gandhi Hospital in Viramgam. Four others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention, with one victim being referred to Rajkot for specialised treatment. All the deceased are residents of the Rajkot area, she added. The police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
