President Pranab Mukherjee had meeting with the top Chinese leaders including his counter part Mr. Xi Jinping and the Prime Minister LI keqiang on bilateral, multilateral and global issues in Beijing today.

Briefing media the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Jaishankar said the leaders from the both countries discussed expansion of finance and trade, flagship programmes, border issues, terrorism and nuclear issues.

Replying to a media question that if the Masood Azhar issue came up in the meeting, the secretary said that India made it clear that there is a global fight against terrorism and there in nothing like good terrorist and bad terrorist.

The two country resolved to cooperate in UN on this issue. On border disputes both sides acknowledged that as neighbours, it is natural to have some differences but we must find convergences to move ahead.

In reply to another question on nuclear issue, he said that India’s consistent stand has been that we need clean energy for our people.

Chinese leaders appreciated top level exchanges between the two countries. The President will return home tomorrow after completing four day state visit.

India and China today signed eleven MOUs on academic co-operation in presence of the visiting Indian President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee in Beijing.

From Indian side, they included Nalanda university, IIT Delhi, IIM Calcutta, Central University of Gujrat, Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur and IIT, Bhubaneshwar with Peking University, Chang’an University, East china university of Political science and Law, Beijing Foreign University, Jinan university from China side.

The area covered under the agreement include Science , engineering, research, academic exchange, computer science and engineering, urban planning and climate change.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mukherjee said that India is taking up several steps to raise the quality of research as allocating more resources and with foreign collaboration.

Steps are also taken to improve research eco-system. Mr. President recounted that India has consistently backed China in International fora.

Be it early recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations with China and also inclusion of Peking in United Nations and restitution of China as permanent member in UN security Council.
