President Ram Nath Kovind has invited leader of NDA Parliamentary Party Narendra Modi to form the new Government at the Centre. Mr Kovind on Saturday appointed Narendra Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India.

He requested Mr Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in-ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

EARLIER National Democratic Alliance elected senior BJP leader Narendra Modi as its leader. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal proposed Mr Modi’s name as the leader of NDA and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and AIADMK leader EK Palaniswami endorsed the proposal. Earlier, Mr Modi was unanimously elected as the leader of BJP parliamentary party. BJP President Amit Shah proposed his name and Rajnath Singh seconded it. Mr Shah said, that 353 Lok Sabha members have extended their support to Mr Modi.

Addressing the NDA leaders in Central Hall of the Parliament, Mr Modi said, people have accepted NDA because of its work. He said, the nation rewards hard work and honesty and it is the strength of this country.

Mr Modi said, a massive mandate increases responsibility and NDA is beginning a new journey from today. He said, Energy and synergy are the two main features of the NDA and the parties must walk shoulder-to-shoulder. Mr Modi expressed happiness that for the first time in Independent India, such a large number of women MPs are sitting in the Parliament and this has been made possible due to women power.

Mr Modi said, there should be no discrimination against anyone in the name of religion and caste and we must not leave anyone behind. He said, we have to win the trust of minorities who have been neglected earlier and only used for vote bank politics. Mr Modi said, the way the poor have been cheated, the minorities have been deceived the same way.

He said, it would have been better if their education and health had been in focus. Mr Modi gave a new mantra – Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas.

Mr Modi said, this time in the Lok Sabha elections, people voted for pro-incumbency and its result was a positive mandate. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah said, it has been a historic mandate and the nation has blessed NDA and Modi from all corners of the country.

He said, People of the country believed in Narendra Modi’s vision and for the first time NDA has a verdict without caste, dynasty and appeasement. Mr Shah said, NDA served the nation for the past five years with the mantra of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.

Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi today staked the claim to form a new government at the Centre. He called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Earlier, NDA leaders also met the President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan and handed over the letter of support from NDA constituent parties to the President.

An NDA delegation, led by BJP President Amit Shah and comprising Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal, JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar, LJP’s Ram Vilas Paswan and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray. Senior BJP Leader Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj were also present.
