BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur today tendered an apology in the Lok Sabha over her reported remarks related to Nathuram Godse.

When the house met after lunch, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that during the meeting of floor leaders of the various parties, it was decided that Ms Thakur will again make a statement in the house.

Following this, Ms Thakur made a statement saying that she did not name Godse during a discussion on Special Protection Group Bill on Wednesday and never described Godse as a patriot.

She said, but if someone was hurt with her remarks then she apologizes for it.

Earlier, Lok Sabha today witnessed uproarious scene over BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur’s statement. After the Question Hour, facing opposition fire for her remarks on Nathuram Godse, Ms Thakur said, if her statements have hurt anyone, then she would like to apologize.

She also said that her statements were misinterpreted and misquoted. Her statement was followed by protests by Opposition leaders who chanted slogans of ‘Mahatma Gandhi Ki Jai’ and ‘Down, Down Godse’.

The Speaker tried to pacify the agitating members but uproar continued. Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, they just have one demand and that is an unqualified apology.

Intervening, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, Prime Minister has instructed all BJP MPs including the Ministers regarding the role of Gandhiji in India’s freedom struggle and to take up Padyatras and spread the principles and message of Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary.

Not satisfied, Opposition members continued their agitation. Speaker Om Birla said, he will meet leaders of all political parties in his chamber and adjourned the House till 2.30 P.M.
