Amid reports of tampering of Electronic Voting Machines, EVMs in different parts of the country, Election Commission today asserted that polled EVMs were ‘absolutely safe’ in strongrooms and the visuals seen viral on media did not pertain to any EVMs used during the polls.
The clarification came amidst certain complaints of alleged movement of EVMs, purportedly to replace the polled EVMs in the strongrooms in sections of media. The Commission emphatically and unambiguously clarified that all such reports and allegations are absolutely false and factually incorrect.
In a statement, poll panel said, after the close of polls, all polled EVMs and VVPATs are brought under security cover to the strongrooms, which is sealed with double locks, in the presence of the candidates and in the presence of observers.
The entire process of storage and sealing of the strongroom is covered under videography and continuous CCTV coverage is done till completion of counting. It added that each strongroom is guarded with round-the-clock security by Central Armed Police Forces and the candidates or their designated agents remain present at the strongroom for a vigil at all times.
