Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah today said that the verdict in the Assembly polls in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala was a lesson for Congress for its “obstructionist politics” in Parliament.
Interacting with the media here after the poll results showed a massive win for the BJP in Assam and Congress’ crushing electoral defeat in all states, Shah said: “The verdict is a lesson for the Congress for its obstructionist politics in Parliament.”
He further said that the performance will lay a “strong foundation” for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “Poll results show that a strong foundation of the BJP has been laid for ensuring victory in 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” he said.
The Congress has been the worst hit in the election, losing power both in Assam, which it had ruled for 15 long years, and Kerala, where it was confident of winning its second term. In West Bengal and Tamil Nadu too the party was left red-faced.
The Congress-DMK alliance was, however, ahead of the ruling All India NR Congress in Puducherry. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also made history in Kerala where its veteran O Rajagopal, 86, was elected from Nemom in Thiruvananthapuram.
