Uttar Pradesh police has initiated proceedings to add sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 in the FIR lodged against BSP leaders. The party chief Mayawati and other senior leaders, including party’s national general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui have been named in the case for their alleged lewd remarks targeting expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh’s family members, particularly his minor daughter, during a protest in Lucknow city on July 21.
Lucknow police chief Manzil Saini confirmed that sub-section 1 of section 11 of the Pocso Act would be included in the FIR which was lodged by expelled BJP leader Dayashankar’s mother Tetra Devi and wife Swati Singh in connection with the July 21 demonstration of the BSP in which protesters shouted the alleged slogans.
Dayashankar’s family had earlier met UP governor Ram Naik and submitted a memorandum demanding slapping of the provisions of Pocso act against BSP leaders. Taking serious note of the memorandum, Mr Naik sought the CD of July 21 demonstration of BSP in Lucknow from the DGP Javeed Ahmed to ascertain facts about slogans raised against the family members of the expelled BJP vice-president who was arrested on Friday for his objectionable comments against the BSP supremo Mayawati.
