Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the national memorial for former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam at Peikarumbu near Rameswaram on July 27. Union Minister of state for Road Transport Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan told reporters in Madurai today that Prime Minister will come to Tamil Nadu next week to open the memorial.

The second death anniversary of former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam will be observed on July 27. Union Information and Broadcasting, The then Union ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Manohar Parikkar laid down the foundation stone of Dr Kalam National memorial at Rameswaram last year.

Dr Kalam died on July 27 in 2015 at Indian Institute of Management Shillong where he had gone to deliver a lecture. A seven feet bronze statue in Peikarumbu was unveiled last year.

The national memorial is set up by DRDO in 2.11 acres at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Dr Kalam still lives in the hearts of millions of people and people still pay tribute to Dr Kalam at his burial place. The national memorial is going to be a holy place to pay respect to a great scientist and popular President.
