Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes of BJP icon and the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said, a devout patriot and proud nationalist, Dr Mookerjee devoted his life for India’s unity and integrity.

The Prime Minister said, Dr Mookerjee’s passion for a strong and united India continues to inspire everyone and gives strength to serve 130 crore Indians.

BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party Working President JP Nadda, BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy and several leaders paid tributes to Dr Mookerjee at his portrait at BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

Mr Nadda visited Shahidi Park in the national capital and paid tributes to Dr Mookerjee.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nadda said, BJP workers are committed to follow the path and ideals of Dr Mookerjee and appealed to the party workers to make the country a strong nation.

In a tweet, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, Dr Mookerjee’s immense contribution to the country will always be remembered.

West Bengal is also observing the death anniversary of Dr Shyma Prasad Mookerjee through various programmes today.

State Power Minister Sovondev Chatterjee paid floral tributes at Dr Mookerjee’s statue at Kaoratala Crematorium in Kolkata this morning.

State BJP President and MP Dilip Ghosh and other distinguished persons of different fields also paid floral tributes.

State BJP is observing the day as Balidan Divas. A special programme has also been organised in Kolkata to discuss the role of Shymaprasad in freedom movement.

Blood donation camps have also been organised at different places to mark the day.
