Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wrapped up his two-day visit to Jordan, a trip that comes at a milestone moment as India and Jordan mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.

The visit saw high-level engagements in Amman, including talks with King Abdullah II, resulting in a joint statement that outlines the next phase of the bilateral relationship.The discussions covered a wide canvas, from political engagement and economic cooperation to technology, culture and regional connectivity.

Several agreements were concluded during the visit, reflecting a shared intent to broaden and modernise the partnership, while reinforcing long-standing ties of trust and goodwill. The visit also underscored India’s growing engagement with West Asia, with Jordan emerging as a key partner linking regional connectivity, trade and people-to-people exchanges. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his landmark visit to Jordan, with India and Jordan agreeing on a forward-looking roadmap to deepen their partnership across trade, technology, connectivity and people-to-people ties. The visit, held at the invitation of King Abdullah II, coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both leaders reaffirmed the strong foundation of trust and goodwill underpinning India-Jordan relations and reviewed cooperation spanning political, economic, defence, education, culture and security sectors.

They agreed to work together as trusted partners in pursuit of their development goals and to sustain the positive momentum through regular high-level engagement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jordan has delivered substantive outcomes across political, economic and cultural domains. Senior officials, during a press briefing, described the trip as significant as it coincides with 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and marks the first full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Jordan in 37 years.

Briefing the media, Secretary (South) Dr Neena Malhotra said that the two leaders held one-on-one talks followed by delegation-level discussions and exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. Terrorism figured prominently in the talks, with Jordan expressing firm support for India’s position. 

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a twinning agreement between Petra and Ellora to promote tourism and cultural cooperation. A letter of intent was also signed on digital transactions, including the use of RuPay cards, while discussions touched upon civil nuclear energy as a clean energy option, though officials said no specific agreement was concluded in this area.  

Regional developments, including the situation in Gaza, were also discussed.
