Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Davos in Switzerland on January 22, 23. Briefing media in New Delhi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the External Affairs Ministry, Vijay Gokhale said, the Prime Minister will impress upon world leaders at World Economic Forum in Davos next week that India is an open economy and ready for global investments across sectors. He said, it will be a 24-hour visit but a very focused one. He said, the focus will be on Prime Minister’s vision about India’s economy’s at the domestic as well as global level.
Mr Modi will address Plenary Session of World Economic Forum on the 23rd during his visit. The theme for this year’s WEF is Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World. The Plenary Session will be moderated by Founder and Executive Chairman of WEF Prof. Klaus Schwab. Mr Gokhale said, Mr Modi will also have a bilateral with Swiss Confederation President Mr. Alain Berset. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the WEF since the earlier one by Deve Gowda in 1997.
Responding to a query, Secretary (Industrial Policy and Promotion) Ramesh Abhishek said, India will showcase its achievements and reforms including economic development in Davos. He said, India’s policy on trade and investment is very clear and India will continue to engage with different nations based on these policies and terms.
