Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore today on the last leg of his three-nation tour. Mr. Modi together with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, will tour an exhibition of local and Indian start-ups in areas such as artificial intelligence, fintech and cyber security in Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre this evening.
Singapore and India will share a new digital payment gateway for cashless transaction during the Prime Minister’s visit.
He is expected to use his RuPay card to buy a momento during a trip to the Indian Heritage Centre in ‘Little India’ situated within Singapore. The mutual recognition of Nets and RuPay will help people from both the countries to use this cashless payment option.
Mr Modi will make a courtesy call tomorrow on President Halimah Yacob at the Istana and hold discussions with Singapore Prime Minister Lee, over lunch. He will also visit Nanyang Technological University to interact with students and witness the signing of joint projects in education and research.
In the evening tomorrow Mr Modi will become the first Indian leader to deliver the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a premier forum on security issues in the Asia-Pacific.
The High Commissioner of India in Singapore Javed Ashraf told AIR that a number of agreements will be signed during Mr Modi’s visit.
