man ki baatPrime Minister Narendra Modi today appealed the people of Gujarat to maintain peace in the state. “It is my appeal to my brothers and sisters that the occasion calls for a single mantra – “peace”. Each and every issue can be resolved through talks”PM said in statement today.

He said that since yesterday, the type of atmosphere that is building up in the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel and the manner in which violence is being used as a tool… “we all know that violence serves no purpose”.

“We have always believed that the development of the state is possible only if we all walk together and stay united”PM underlined.

“We all should follow the spirit of democracy. We must work together to solve problems through talks and to contribute in efforts to take Gujarat to new heights. This is my humble request to all the brothers and sisters of Gujarat” PM said in appeal.

Situation in violence hit areas of Gujarat is tense but under control. Curfew has been imposed in some parts of Ahmedabad, Surat and Mehsana districts after last night’s violent incidents. Barring sporadic incidents of stone pelting and arson, no major incident of violence has been reported since this morning.

Paramilitary forces including State Reserve Police Force, Rapid Action Force and Border Security Force have been deployed in Ahmedabad, Surat and Mehsana district to maintain law and order situation.

11 companies of CRPF have already been deployed in different parts of the state, while 30 additional companies are being sent from Delhi.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel regarding the law and order situation in the state. The Home Minister said in a statement that his Ministry is in constant touch with the Gujarat Government after violence was reported from across the state last evening following the brief detention of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel and lathicharge on his supporters at the rally venue. Additional forces have been rushed to Gujarat to control the situation.

Gujarat Chief Minister also reviewed the situation in a high level meeting at Gandhinagar today. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel this morning and offered all help from the centre including additional companies of paramilitary forces.

In a media release, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has ordered inquiry against the alleged police atrocities on agitators and assured strict action against the responsible persons. She also appealed to the people to maintain peace in the state. Gujarat bandh called by Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti has evoked mix response so far.
