Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured the people of the North Eastern states that the Central government would take all steps to ensure that they were not discriminated.

rajnathAttending the conference of North East Chief Ministers in Guwahati today, Mr. Singh reiterated Centre’s zero tolerance policy on insurgency. He ruled out holding talks with any criminal elements and reiterated that the Centre would deal with such elements firmly. He made this comment on the rise of splinter militant groups particularly in Assam and Meghalaya. He also said that development and security must go hand in hand and called for close coordination between the state governments and the Centre.

The Home minister also announced to constitute a committee to review how to effectively manage the Indo-Myanmar border. Mr. Singh said that the committee would soon submit a report and Home ministry would take action on it.

He urged upon the Chief Ministers of the region to launch drives against illegal arms. The Home minister also urged the Chief Ministers of the region to resolve the border disputes mutually. He asked them to provide land for border fencing and expedite land acquisition. He announced sanction of another battalion of NDRF to the North East. Several Union ministers and senior officials are also taking part in the conference.
