Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has sought reports from the Navy over the reported leak of classified informations related to Indian Navy’s Scorpene submarine project.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr. Parrikar said, he has asked the Navy Chief to study the entire issue and in a couple of days details will come out. He, however, said it is not 100 percent leak since a lot of final integration lies with India. The minister said he understands that there has been a hacking.
In a statement, the Navy said, the available information is being examined at Integrated Headquarters and an analysis is being carried out by the concerned specialists. The Navy said the source of leak is appeared to be from overseas and not in India.
Reportedly, sensitive documents detailing the technical and stealth capabilities of India’s Scoprene submarines designed by French shipbuilder DCNS have been leaked. The documents have been made available with excerpts released online by an Australian newspaper.
The Scorpenes are considered some of the most advanced of their class in the world. The Australian newspaper reported that the leak occurred in France in 2011.
