Mr. Bhajan Lal served as a Union Minister and was a Member of the Lok Sabha representing Faridabad and Hisar constituencies.
He had also been a Member of the Rajya Sabha and a Member of the Planning Commission. Speaker Meira Kumar recalled the contribution of Bhajan Lal to the public life and his contribution as a Parliamentarian.

Tributes were also paid to five other former members of the House- Dharmabhiksham, Sribatcha Digal, Sripal Singh Yadav, L S Tur and Chaturanan Mishra. Members joined the Speaker in conveying condolences to the bereaved families. They stood in silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
The members also joined the Speaker in expressing their grief and sorrow of the recent tragic rail accidents in the country, Mumbai blasts and terror attacks in Norway.
Later, the House was adjourned for the day.

The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 11 am Tuesday following persistent demands by the BSP members for a new Central land acquisition bill. The House was first adjourned briefly after the opposition trooped into the well of the House demanding a new legislation on land acquisition. Later, when the House resumed its business, the BSP and AIADMK members shouted slogans, forcing the Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari to adjourn the House for the day. Earlier, three newly elected members took oath. The Prime Minister introduced his newly appointed Cabinet colleagues to the House.

Soon after the House began its session, members mourned the death of twelve former colleagues who passed away during the inter-session period. They also expressed sorrow on the passing away of Sri Sathya Sai Baha, former Arunachal Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and victims of Mumbai serial blasts.
